Shannon Airport plugging Wild Atlantic Way

Ireland's west coast airport at Shannon has launched a million-dollar campaign to draw U.S. visitors to Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way and other west coast attractions.

The campaign hopes to restore the airport's popularity, which waned during long shutdowns during the height of the pandemic, leaving Dublin as nearly the only destination choice for trans-atlantic visitors. Flights from Boston and New York on Aer Lingus have returned to Shannon, and United flies between Shannon and Newark.

The campaign, which runs through November, is a joint project of Tourism Ireland, the airport and six tourism enterprises along the highly-promoted Wild Atlantic Way. It includes billboards, social media ads and promotions with travel websites.

Shannon is also pushing for traffic coming the other way; the photo above celebrates new routes from Europe to Shannon on Spain's Vueling Airlines.
