Scotland eyes ferry link to Holland

With Brexit and its potential fallout nearing, the semi-autonomous regional government in Scotland may be looking to hedge its bets by encouraging a direct freight and passenger ferry from Scotland to Eemshaven, in the Netherlands.

The ferry route, which could start as early as October, would use Stena ferries under contract with a company called TEC Offshore. The focus would be on freight, but passengers would be accommodated, too.

Scotland, whose residents voted strongly for Remain in the British referendum in 2016, exports whiskey and timber products to Europe, especially Germany. Since a previous ferry service between Rosyth, Scotland and Belgium shut down in 2010, passengers have had to head to Newcastle in England for the nearest ferry to the continent, and cargo has gone even further south, especially to the Channel Tunnel.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
