The photo shows St. Mary's church in the pretty little market town of Saffron Walden, some 25km south of Cambridge. The town derives its name from the saffron crocus that was grown here in the 16th and 17th century.
The impressive church dates back to the mid-13th century, when it replaced an even earlier Norman one.
A walk through the town takes you past many historic (and quite a few quirky) buildings.
As befits a market town, there was a market—mainly food stalls and a few selling clothing—in the central square when we arrived. It wasn't the most exciting one we ever encountered, but we ended up buying a few herbs and some fruit.
