One of my favorite animals to watch and photograph is bighorn sheep. I've been lucky in recent years to live near the Rocky Mountains and have often spotted groups of bighorns walking on steep slopes beside the roads I've traveled.
In my experience the best time to see bighorn sheep is in the spring when the mountain peaks are still snow-covered, but the grass has begun to grow beside the roads. Besides nibbling on fresh grass, they come to lick salt.
This group of females was seen roadside on highway 3, between Cranbrook and Fernie in British Columbia.
