Paris bridges language gap with new app

Paris is consistently the world's most-visited city, and while it's fairly easy for English-speakers to get what they need, it's harder for speakers of many other languages. Paris has just rolled out a new app called "Yes, I speak touriste?" to help them out.

The free app allows users to specify their language and what they are interested in, and get a map and locations of stores and more where their language is spoken. For instance, the map above shows results  for "English" and "fashion."

Paris visitors are 58% French and 42% international. While 94% of visitors surveyed described themselves as satisfied, the percentages for Japanese and Chinese visitors were in the 50s. The issue of security is often raised, but language issues also play a part. The Paris chamber of commerce, which issued the app, hopes that this will help make them feel more at home.
