Norway opens waterfall-view bridge

If water falls in a canyon and no one can see it...no, wait, that's the one about a tree falling in a forest. Nonetheless, Norway has just finished a new footbridge whose only purpose is to allow visitors to look down on a spectacular waterfall.

The Vøringsfossen Waterfall, which has a drop of over 180 meters, including a 145-meter single drop in the Måbødalen valley, is now spanned by a bridge with 99 steps leading to its center span, which provides 47 meters of viewing space above the falls.

The bridge has a unique profile: because of a height difference between the two sides of the gorge, there is a height gain of 16 meters; depending on which side visitors approach it, they'll either be uphill or downhill the whole time.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
