Mexico low-cost carrier adds U.S. flights

Volaris, a Guadalajara-based Ultra Low-Cost Carrier (ULCC) that has an extensive network in Mexico and also serves cities in the southwestern U.S. is pushing to increase its U.S. business by adding flights to further destinations, especially ones with significiant Mexican populations. New York's JFK is next, starting with a 3-times-a-week flight from July 15th.

Volaris, which claims the most extensive cross-border service of any non-U.S. carrier, markets its service especially to Mexicans with friends and family in the U.S. The carrier uses a fare structure similar to Spirit or Allegiant—selling basic fare and charging extra for anything else.
