Marble Arch, London

One of London's many landmarks is Marble Arch, located in the northeast corner of Hyde Park not far from Speaker's Corner. The arch, constructed of white marble, was built in the 19th-century. Originally intended to be the state entrance of Buckingham Palace it was relocated to its current spot 150 years ago. The name is now used for the surrounding area and businesses.

Only members of the Royal Family or their troops are permitted to pass through the arch, a rare event now as it happens in ceremonial processions.

As with most public monuments, pigeons have free reign of the place and enter and leave the arch and surrounding area in large numbers.
