Irony: Cruise ships are now tourist attraction

Cruise ships anchored off the coast of England have now ironically become an attraction for land-based vacationers, who can cruise to the anchored giants of the see for a lookaround.

At Poole, England, where Aurora, Arcadia and Allure of the Seas are waiting for cruising to resume, a small boat, Solent Scene, is offering a £15 two-hour cruise out to the anchorage to view the ships. But not too close, please: There's a 50-yard limit to how close they are allowed.

The short cruise has proven popular both with cruisers who have found themselves unwillingly cut off from their favorite vacations and with non-cruisers who are into the novelty. A few have even said the short trip has made them want to take a real cruise eventually.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
