Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Oct. 13: Brussels' Saucy Statue

Two of Brussels’ most famous obsessions—chocolate and the famous Maneken-Pis stature of a small boy urinating—are caught in one picture of a chocolate shop featuring endless sizes and flavors of the statue, rendered in chocolate.

For a view of crowds surrounding the actual statue, see below. The statue is carefully dressed each day in a different costume, many representing different nations and trades.

Brussels has other food fame as well: Belgian waffles, steamed mussels, and some of the world’s best “French” fries. Near the statue is Grand Place, Brussels’ famous central square, lined by the ornate City Hall, medieval guildhalls, churches and a royal residence…as well as many popular cafes.
