Dutch growers: Stop tiptoe-ing thru the tulips

Dutch tulip farmers are complaining that selfie-crazed millenial visitors are ruining their business by trampling flowers and bulbs in a quest for the perfect snap.

Spring bloom is a popular time to visit the vast and colorful tulip fields, such as the one above at Keukenhof, but recently visitors have turned from photographing the tulips to shooting themselves among the tulips. Not only are stalks often damaged, but the pressure of feet above the bulbs can stunt grown by packing the soil. Farmers have claimed up to €10,000 in damage.

Farmers and local tourist boards are now posting signs and using social media to explain the problem, but some think stronger measures will be needed.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
