Canada: Cruise ports closed until 2021

Canada put an end Friday to speculation about cruises in Canadian waters resuming after July 1 with a firm decision that bans ships with over 100 people, passengers and crew, through October 31.

In effect, that means no cruises until Spring because none of the large-ship companies operate to Canada in winter. Since many Alaska cruises operate from Vancouver, they will be affected also. Sailings from Seattle, the other port in the trade, are still not allowed by the U.S.

While some small-ship operations may resume July 1st, but the Arctic exploration season will not operate because those areas—Nunatsiavut, Nunavik and the Labrador Coast among others—are still subject to a ban on boats carrying more than 12.
