Bangkok to get 1500-foot viewing tower

Bangkok's waterfront will soon sport a 1505-foot, or 459-metre, observation tower that will be the tallest in Southeast Asia, and  6th-tallest in the world.

Target date for opening is 2019. Tourism officials expect it will increase the city's visibility as a tourism destination, even beyond its present start status. They compare its effect to Tokyo's Skytree and Shanghai's Canton Tower.

The tower is being jointly built by the Bangkok Observation Tower Foundation and the National Identity Foundation on government-owned land. After the tower is built with private contributions, it will belong to the government.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
