I know just how she felt. You cut into your steak, you're anticipating that wonderful first taste of a succulent piece of beef. Then as you slowly take it into your mouth the waiter appears ! "How's your steak Sir ?" Nom nom , choke, nom nom. "its fine dank you" cough..... When you really want to raise your arms and chase him into the car park - because you know its something waiters do for fun ! Love the Photos too !!

Having just flown Emirates from Dubai to Colombo and back, and having gone through security at DXB several times, I have these observations to share: 1) Emirates offers among the finest service of any airline in the world. And at a very good price. If it was a convenient option, I wouldn't hesitate to fly Emirates again. The only other airlines in my experience with a similar level of service are Singapore and Thai. Re: Sequoia National Park: Hiking to Pear Lake (The Lakes Trail)
The challenge of this particular trail is getting up to the lakes. Once there, the trail is not that hard, although rocky so you have to watch your footing. There are easier places to get into the subalpine zone of some great mountains, PHeymont. Both in California and in the Rockies. When you're ready, we'll pick one and head out there. Likely for a day hike. My knees don't like the weight of a full backpack anymore.

It's an amazing story, Huw, with beautiful photographs that really made me feel part of your travel experience. I love your sense of adventure. Thanks for sharing this special place with all of us! Are there any polar bears in Greenland? And if so, what precautions would a hiker take. One last question. How heavy was your backpack when you started this journey. The weight of food alone must have been substantial.

Wheels do add weight and take away space, but if you've a long connection to make at an airport, it's so nice to have the wheeled carryon. If I don't have a roller bag, I use a backpack. Easier to carry and with better balance than a small duffer or other hand held bag.
