Record-breaking holiday tree is hot ticket

There are still a few days left if you really want to see the World’s Tallest Bedded Christmas Tree, and you may have better luck than the many who were turned away in December as crowds repeatedly overwhelmed parking lots nearby.

The 147-foot giant redwood, which has been awarded the record by Guinness World Records, is at Cragside Garden in Northumberland, operated by the National Trust, which dressed the tree for the occasion with over 1,300 lights. A crane was needed to drape the lights.

Some visitors asked why a booking system was not in place, but National Trust Cragside said it experienced “unprecedented numbers” arriving within an hour of opening, “even after opening earlier to try and avoid closing.”
