Rambling around Essaouria

Essaouira is a charming city on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, located about a 3 hour drive west of Marrakech.

The city is home to around 78,000 residents and is best known for it’s medina (old town), which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage site (2001).  It’s very pleasant to walk through the city gates and stroll along the white-washed buildings and stop in some of the shops or cafes.

Essaouira is also well known for its scenic harbor and as a fishing port.

As it’s situated on the coast, the sea breeze is cooling and pleasant in this hot country.  I spent two days here, and could easily have spent a lot more time.
