In the tiny coastal state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, and just contiguous with the neighboring state of Malacca (so much so that this location is officially listed as being in the latter), is the pretty little town known as Port Dickson; on the outskirts stands the Rachado Lighthouse, its name derived from Portuguese (as Malacca was under Portuguese rule at that time).
A short but challenging hike awaits those who wish to see the structure up close, and is totally worth it especially in the gentle light of the morning.
A tiny stall at the base offers the much needed soft drinks and refreshments, and the views from the top are rewarding. Several hiking trails lead deeper into the forest, with some of them leading down towards secluded stretches of beach, and birders can also look out for winged wonders.
The only downside is the parking if one is driving up, owing to the limited facilities and undulating terrain, and a little luck is always welcome in this regard, as we had!
That’s a pretty lighthouse! How long did the hike take?
It’s a gentle hike and takes roughly 20 minutes; yes, the lighthouse is pretty!
