The vast lava fields of the Big Island contain many surprises, one of the most fun to explore being petroglyphs made by early residents of the island hundreds of years ago.

Puʻuloa is a sacred site and home to the state’s largest collection of petroglyphs, with over 23,000 images. You’ll find it in Volcanoes National Park. The lava in this field is estimated to be about 550 years old. A well established trail makes the walking through this area fairly safe and easy.
