Pretty Bikes in Amsterdam

The flat landscapes of the Netherlands lend themselves well to biking.  In fact, most cyclists find the weather — especially a strong head wind — far harder to pedal against than any upward slopes you might encounter.

So commuting bicycles are popular and common in Amsterdam.  We spotted several bikes along our walks on the city’s streets and canals that made us stop and look.  They were beautifully decorated and just sitting there.  I assume they’re part of an urban beautification project, but don’t really know for sure.

An intriguing story and beautiful photos!

They led me to search a bit and find that the flower bikes are the work of an American living in Amsterdam, Warren Gregory, who started it all by decorating his wife’s bike because she had trouble remembering where she had left it.
