Portugal’s Revive program, which is designed to transform vacant historic buildings into hotels, has just had five more properties added to its list, but the program has so far yielded three operating properties since it started in 2016.
The program began in 2016 with 65 properties designated, but in the end only 31 were offered for development, with 24 contracts signed—but many of those 21 have not yet started work are are delayed. Two have opened under the Vila Gale Collection brand in Elvas and Alter Real, and another is operating as The Lince Santa Clara in Vila do Conde.
The Ministry of Economy says that two others are in final stages of construction, re-using a monastery in Arouca and a palace in Madeira. The five new buildings offered for bids a hospital in Ribeira Grande in the Azores, a school in Elvas, a convent in Evora and the Pombalino Building of Rua da Prata in Lisbon.
