Leaders of the Portuguese Hotel Association have come up with what they say would be a bridge between locals and tourists and reduce issues between the groups: Show the public what tourism taxes are paying for.
The proposal calls for a plaque or seal to be attached to facilities paid for or maintained from tourism taxes levied on visitors so that the public could see what tourism brings, and also ensure that the taxes are going for appropriate projects and not just disappearing into general revenues.
Bernardo Trindade, association president also said that, despite political instability, the tourism sector has demonstrated its resilience by presenting good results. However, he pointed out that there is still a lot of “prejudice, misinformation and vile attacks” on the sector, calling for a closer relationship with people to change this situation.
