One year while spending some time in New Orleans, my husband Gene and I took a day trip to Baton Rouge. We wanted to see the state capitol, but we also wanted to explore the area. One of the best places we visited was Port Allen. It is such a beautiful area and we enjoyed just hanging out and taking in the views. Port Allen sits just across the Mississippi River and is a busy crossroads with cargo moving from barges and trains to ocean-going vessels. We were even able to see the captiol from across the river.
