It’s getting to be a dog’s (and cat’s and more) life on ferries linking Ireland to England and Europe as ferry lines add special accommodations for travelers’ pets. The latest is Irish Ferries, which has added Pet Den lounges on up to 12 daily sailings.
The no-extra-fee spaces vary in size, but on average are for 15 to 18 pets (“dogs, cats, and even ferrets”) and their owners. The company says they provide “elevated comfort and style in dedicated spacious lounges.” The facilities include tables with leash hooks, water dispensers and a snack-and-beverage lounge service. There’s also an outdoor deck area with artificial grass and posts.

Stena Line line says it had 78,000 ‘pet crossings’ on Irish Sea routes last year, and also has pet service on a route from Cairnryan to Belfast. All of the lines also have pet-friendly cabins on some of their longer-distance ferries, including some serving Continental ports.
There’s a reminder, though: pets need more than just food and toys—pet passports and full medical documentation are required.
