The 2010 Winter Olympic Games (XXI games) were held in Vancouver, British Columbia. The events requiring mountains (downhill skiing, tobogganing, luge, ski jumping) were held in Whistler, about an hour and a half drive to the north-east of Vancouver. For 27 nights Whistler Olympic Plaza was the site for the medal awards ceremonies.

Today you can still visit the Whistler Olympic Plaza, located in the heart of Whistler Village, as signs throughout Whistler point you in the right direction. You’ll still find the Olympic rings, flag poles and more. The area has morphed into an outdoor performance venue hosting summer concerts. In the winter Olympic Plaza is converted into a skating rink. The plaza is surrounded by places to sit, coffee shops and restaurants, and is a gathering point in Whistler.

Located somewhat away from the plaza is this Inukshuk, the symbol of the 2010 Winter Games.
