Saddle River, New Jersey has just taken a big step into the past with its newest bridge, the first covered bridge built in the state in over a century.
The Walsh Family Bridge, named for the family that’s helped pay for an ecological and sculpture park connected to the bridge. The bridge, designed in traditional New England style, connects the towns Rindlaub Park with 10 acres of previously inaccessible woodlands that have been set aside for passive recreation and open space.
The town’s vision for the added space, aimed at uniting education, art and nature, includes works by world-renowned sculptor Carolyn Palmer, future sculptures donated by the Walsh family, and student art from Wandell Elementary.
