If you’ve ever dreamed of touring Italy in one of those classic Fiat 500s, Italy’s version of the little car that could, the opportunity might be coming in a new way: Electric.
A company in Turin, Officine Gentile, is turning the 1957-1975 classic ‘cheap car’ into a curvy and often pastel-painted EV with the charging port hidden behind the classic logo on the front.
Over 4 million of the originals were made, so there’s a fairly dependable supply for Officine Gentile to work on, and the product at the end has a steady stream of buyers, even at €40-50,000. Convertibles, including the ‘Lido’ model, run about €80,000.
