National Park fee hikes coming for overseas visitors

U.S. National Parks are about to become a bit more expensive for overseas visitors based on an executive order by President Trump, but the exact amounts haven’t been announced yet.

Trump’s order says that revenue from the fee increases will be used toward “improving affordability for United States residents, and expanding opportunities to enjoy America’s splendid national treasures.”

The order also mandates that the National Park Service give precedence to Americans in allotting access to capacity-limited resources such as campgrounds and some park areas.

Trump’s order also revoked an order signed in 2017 by President Obama, promoting efforts toward diversity and inclusion in park and public land management. That order called for “considering recommendations and proposals from diverse populations to protect at-risk historic, cultural, and natural sites.”

This won’t do much to increase the already falling numbers of overseas visitors.
