With a door reminiscent of its famous magazine covers, the National Geographic Society is opening a new Museum of Exploration at its headquarters in Washington, DC.
The museum, set to open June 26 in 100,000 square feet of new public space, uses cutting-edge, immersive technology and is meant to “serve as a center for global discovery for families, travelers and the curious at heart.”
Aside from the multi-media content, the museum features permanent and rotating exhibits of photography, many drawn from the Society’s archives. While it says it is aimed at families, it won’t be a budget experience: general admission starts at $29.99 for adults, although discounts will be available to visitors who qualify for the Museums for All program.
