Officially named Metropol Parasol and locally nicknamed the Mushrooms of Seville (Setas de Sevilla), this giant wooden construction looks different from any angle you choose, never looks quite right in its setting in the old quarter, except when it looks perfect.
Built in 2011 to designs by German architect Jürgen Mayer, it’s predominantly micro-laminated Finnish pine and is claimed to be the world’s largest wooden structure.
And it’s not just a pretty face—it also provides a home for the Mercado de la Incarnacion, the city’s central market as well as bars, performance space, an archaeology museum and a rooftop terrace.
