Lufthansa has added an offer for travelers who’d like a few days in Munich while on their way to or from somewhere else on Lufthansa—a free stopover of up to seven days.
The offer is implemented in the airline’s booking process with an “Add a stopover in Munich” button that appears when booking an itinerary that calls for changing planes there. Clicking it opens a dialog for choosing the number of days and whether the stopover is on the inbound or outbound leg.
Other airlines that offer free stopovers at their hubs include TAP (Lisbon or Porto, up to 10 days), Icelandair (Reykjavik, 7 days), Copa Airlines (Panama City), LOT (Warsaw), Finnair (Helskinki) and Japan Airlines (Tokyo or Osaka). The big Gulf airlines (Qatar, Emirates and Etihad) offer shorter stopovers, but Etihad’s sometimes includes hotel stays. Air France and KLM offer stopovers in Paris and Amsterdam on award tickets.
