Manta is the major port city on the Pacific coast of Ecuador. It’s home to about a quarter of a million residents and is best known for its fishing industry, especially for its tuna fleet (whose catch is canned and shipped around the world). Most of the boats you see in the above photo are tuna boats, and this is but a small percentage of the city’s fishing fleet.
Given its close proximity to the sea, water sports are popular, like scuba diving, surfing, kitesurfing and water skiing.
I found our views of the city from our ship’s dock to be quite lovely. The port was busy and interesting.
