London to get its own ‘High Line’

London will soon join Paris and New York with its own version of an elevated park, but unlike the Promenade Plantée or the High Line, London’s is purpose-built rather than re-using an abandoned rail line.

The Tide, designed by some of the architects who worked on the High Line project, will run for about three miles along the Thames in a formerly-industrial area of the Greenwich Peninsula. The first half-mile will open in July, with the rest to be finished later. A festival with music, art, film and wellness programs will celebrate the opening.

Greenwich is getting more than just the park—the Tide is part of a multi-billion dollar plan to create  15,000 new homes, 13,000 new jobs and seven new neighborhoods.
