Llamas are domesticated animals but native to the Andes Mountains of South America, particularly in countries like Peru and Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. They have been exported to other countries, where they are used as pack animals, a source of food, wool, hides, tallow for candles, and dried dung for fuel. While my husband and I were in Bogotá Colombia last year, we saw a few at Plaza Bolívar as well as Monserrate.
We quickly learned that they are around primarily for tourist photos and not common to see them roaming the streets. Here are a couple of pictures of a few llamas we saw as we ran around the city with our friend Hans.
