The Graca Funicular, the newest and most modern of Lisbon’s funiculars is the first to return to service after last year’s fatal crash of the Gloria funicular. After the crash, the city closed down all its funiculars and ‘Elevadors’ for safety inspections.
Built in 2024, Graca takes 14 passengers at a time from Largo da Graca to Rua dos Lagares, providing access to a scenic viewpoint as well as local businesses and residents. For now, it’s running from 9 am to 5 pm daily, but hours will be gradually extended.
Although it’s an important tourism magnet, it also serves locals, and the city’s transit operator Carris is testing a “queue management pilot, seeking to prioritise access for frequent passengers.”
