Jan. 16, 2018: Petra, Jordan

A trip to Jordan wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Petra. Dating back as far as 312 BC, it once served as the capital city of the nomadic Nabataeans. Petra Archaeologic Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

A visit here begins along a nearly mile-long siq, or narrow gorge. When the chasm opens up, the Treasury appears dramatically before guests. But the Treasury is only the beginning. There are tombs, a theater and temples, hundreds of buildings, colonnaded streets, tombs, baths, temples, arched gateways and rock drawings as well as a 3,000 seat open air theater and a gigantic 1st century monastery. There are 65 acres to explore.

My visit was part of Exodus Travels Hidden Treasures of Jordan tour. For more information check the website at www.exodustravels.com or call 1-844-227-9087.
