Keukenhof Gardens, near Amsterdam, has opened again for the 77th annual lavish display of flowers, especially tulips, in bloom. The season will continue through May 10, with different varieties blooming over the weeks.
According to the show’s organizers, “The first spring flowers are appearing: white and purple crocuses shine among the fresh greenery, fritillaries rise high above the borders, and even the first hyacinths are curiously poking their heads above the soil.”
What began as a trade and export show for the Dutch flower industry has become one of the Netherlands’ best-known tourism attractions, and draw over a million visitors each year. More impressive numbers: 7 million flowering bulbs from 100 companies, with hundreds more showing cut flowers and pot plants.
