JetBlue may be getting ready to fly to London, a big step for the low-cost carrier that has so far focused on North America and the Caribbean.
In an interview with the UK’s Independent, CEO Robin Hayes said that “we’re actively looking at it now… What JetBlue has always done since we started nearly 20 years ago is bring low fares with a better service, and we’d love to bring that to Europe.”
Hayes pointed out to the high cost of business-class fares between London and U.S. cities such as Boston and New York, and suggested that JetBlue’s Mint business-class service could make money undercutting those fares. And the airline may be getting just the plane to do that. It’s recently started adding A321s to its fleet of mostly A320s, had has options to swap some of those to the A321LR model, suited for trans-Atlantic routes.
