In a world of varied and sometimes bizarre ice cream flavors, there may be a new winner for the title of ‘oddest there is.’ Popcorn, bubble gum and even pizza are already on the ice cream market, but now Carnival Cruises and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream have created one tasting like sunscreen.
Well, at least like what you might imagine sunscreen would taste like if you ever decided to ignore the warnings on the bottle and taste it.
It was created as a one-off for Carnival, but the two companies say that “if the buzz is big enough, a limited-time run of the flavor could be on the horizon.” Carnival says it’s aimed at fighting “the bittersweet feeling when the season of sunshine and carefree moments winds down.”
There’s no actual sunscreen in the recipe, however. The ice cream is made with cream, coconut cream, milk, cane sugar, egg yolks, cocoa butter, natural flavors, vanilla extract and sea salt. No word from either company on how they determined what sunscreen actually tastes like.
