While walking along the waterfront in Essaouira, I came across a man filling sacks with something – barnacles I thought. I ran an image search of these photos through an AI program, which identified them as goose barnacles.


These barnacles have stalks (which are the only edible part), hard protective shells and are densely clustered. They are supposed to be quite delicious, if properly prepared.
A photo of this was used as last weekend’s One Clue Mystery Photo. I thought this a particularly difficult photo challenge, but it did not stump George G — congratulations as always to you, George!

The photo below is a look at the walled city, adjoining the spot where the barnacle gathering was taking place.
