Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, March 28, 2015: Runnymede, England

Runnymede1

I first visited this meadow (mede) beside the River Thames in 1966, to visit one of several memorials located there.  Back then the grass was far less manicured than I found it more recently and my reason for going was just slightly older than the monument, dedicated to President Kennedy.  I found out years later that another commemoration on the site was far older, a remembrance of a day in 1215 when King John signed a document, likely on the site, limiting his power in the land.

I was walking toward London along the Thames Path when I visited more recently, having stayed the night in nearby Windsor, and paused a while to appreciate both again.  Now managed by the National Trust, read more about the site on the links below.

Half the world has DNA from Attila the Hun.

Cant change the past.

I’m sure we all have ancestors with a survival instinct.

That’s why we all survive.

I did not know your roots go back to British Royalty, PM?!

Does that mean you are a Princess?
