Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, June 11, 2014: At the Australian Embassy, DC

Washington is a city with many embassies and international organizations, decked out with flags and formal coats of arms. But Australia has a reputation for casualness, and this free-form version of the Australian seal caught our attention. It’s by Tom Bass, one of Australia’s best-known sculptors, noted especially for expressing ideas, rather than individuals, in his work.
