New York Harbor at Sea Level

In New York’s concrete canyons, it’s possible to lose track of the city’s connection to the sea…but not when you’re out on a harbor trip on a tour from the South Street Seaport. This scene looks up the mouth of the Hudson River from the Upper Bay, with New Jersey on the left. Our tour was on the retired harbor tug W.O. Decker, currently undergoing restoration.

My only experience of being on the water in NY Harbor was a lesson in perspective and point of view, as this one is.  Seen from a clear distance in this way, a great city is an entirely different beast.
