Every year, the New York Transit Museum draws a crowd for its Holiday Train Show at the museum branch in Grand Central Terminal; this year I decided to stop by and have a look.

The centerpiece of the show, which occupies only a small space in the small museum branch, is a model of Grand Central itself, and its neighbors; around the back there are scenes from elsewhere in the city and even a rural area. The long lines (below) were full of families and kids, some of whom were seriously into trains, mimicking train whistles and calling out “All Aboard!”

Elsewhere in the terminal, a full-scale upscale food market, along with an upscale holiday market on another concourse.

But the star of the show, as always, is the magnificent station itself, with its soaring frescoed ceilings and columned concourse

It’s no accident that it’s also sort of Grand Selfie Station as well…

And yes, there are still trains…
