Germany’s Deutsche Bahn is rolling out an ‘unaccompanied minor’ travel program much like that you might find at an airline, but with a difference: instead of being monitored by flight attendants, the children will travel in groups of up to 14 with two dedicated chaperones.
The program, which rolls out with six routes August 21st and will be expanded over time, is for children 6 to 14, and requires a €69 fee in addition to the ticket price, which is half-price for passengers that age. Officially, 6 to 14s can travel unaccompanied, but the monitored group will ease worries for many families. Children in that age group, by the way, travel free if accompanied by parents.
The service is aimed at families with children traveling for such reasons as visiting relatives, attending holiday activities or spending time with separated parents.
