Biang Lek, a wild elephant from Khao Yai National Park in Thailand, has apparently gone for the gold standard; he was caught foraging in a local restaurant that has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The restaurant, Penlaos, is noted for dishes from northeastern Thailand; the Bib Gourmand is awarded for high-quality cuisine at good value.
The elephant has been known to forage at restaurants before, and locals believe he’s developed a taste for human food. In this latest incident, surveillance-camera footage shows a 4 a.m. snack in progress at the restaurant’s front-counter fruit stall.
