The week I spent in Baja California included a visit to a small fairly remote fishing village on Magdalena Bay. We got to see the fishermen clean the day’s catch, and I had the finest fish tacos of my life there — made with fresh marinated swordfish caught that morning.
The photo below shows an interesting display in this village. It consists of three whale bones. The one at the bottom is the jawbone of a blue whale, the largest animal on the planet. The bones lying on it are skulls of gray whales, the stars of the area. Gray whales migrate from Alaska to the area each fall, where they mate and have their young. In the late winter the whales migrate back to Alaska.
