Sarphatipark is a public park in the De Pijp neighborhood of South Amsterdam. While not large, the place offers a peaceful green oasis within the urban landscape. It has winding paths, lots of trees, lawns for kids to play on, and a central pond with aquatic birds. There are play areas including ball courts and exercise equipment.
The park is named after Samuel Sarphati (1813–1866), a Jewish doctor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who played a significant role in Amsterdam’s development in the 19th century. There is a prominent monument to Dr Sarphati within the park, installed in 1886. During World War II, the park was temporarily renamed Bollandpark due to Sarphati’s Jewish heritage, but the original name was restored in 1945.
The park is close to the Albert Cuyp Market and is a nice spot to explore – especially if you are looking for a retreat from the big city.
