A super-rare sea turtle that washed up on a beach in Wales three years ago has been flown home to Texas in a special temperature-controlled crate.
Rhossi, a Kermp’s Ridley turtle, was near death when he was found near Anglesey in 2023, apparently having been washed across the ocean from his normal habitat in the Gulf of Mexico. The variety are so rare that they lay their eggs on only two beaches, one in Mexico and one in Texas.
After two years of treatment at the Anglesey Sea Zoo, and construction of his special transport, he was flown to Texas last week. After health clearance is complete, he’ll be released near the Padre Island National Seashore.
