An elephant who’s normally seen by visitors in Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park reversed the scene last week by leaving the park to visit a local store, apparently in search of snacks.
The huge animal, who barely fit under the store’s ceiling, showed up mid-afternoon as the owner was serving customers, who promptly left, calling police as they left. The elephant calmly searched the store’s shelves for food.
When park rangers arrived, they and the shop owner tried to get the huge beast to leave, alternately shouting and pleading with him, with no effect as it continued to graze the shelves. After about another ten minutes, the elephant left and wandered back to the park. The storeowner estimated loss and damage at “more than 1000 baht,” or about $32.
That’s hilarious! What a polite elephant to only do $32 in damages!
