The 70-kilo minute hand of the clock on St Martins Dom in Utrecht, the Netherlands fell from the tower, crashing onto a lower floor of the tower.
While no one was hurt, and the area was quickly cordoned off in case of other parts falling, the main result was a spate of stories with joking headlines, such as this one. One article spoke of losing minutes; another said the accident was killing time.
The cause of the collapse is unknown; a Utrecht council spokesperson told reporters that “We don’t know if it’s anything to do with the snowfall. We don’t think so but we need to find out.”
